The other reviewer noted that it is a looped pile, and they are large loops. I like the carpet and think it is attractive and well made and at a great price point. I was excited when I opened it and saw how nicely the colors work in the room. I even immediately ordered the matching 3 foot diameter round version. However, I now regret it because by the second day, my cat had pulled so many loops that it doesn't look very nice anymore. I have a couple high-end middle eastern rugs that she has never scratched at all, so it is just because of the loop pile construction. So, if you have a cat, I can't recommend it at all, but otherwise, it's a nice product.
