Hardware Mechanism (left and right arm) for Appliance Lift Review
Update 9/6/13 - I have changed my rating from 1-Star to 5-Stars. It turns out that the manufacturer is indeed Knape & Vogt and I congratulate them for their excellent service for replacing the first unit that failed soon after installation. The replacement unit shows they have redesigned the product to preclude the failure mode, in other words it is not a hit-or-miss where some units work and others may not. Presumably they have purged their inventory of the defective units, but just-in-case here is how you can readily tell whether you have the redesigned product. The instruction sheet prominently describes the "adjustment pins", make sure the pins have a nut on the other side of the metal bracket. If the pins are simply screwed into the metal bracket that means you have the old design and need to get it replaced.++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Note - I bought this product directly from the manufacturer (organizeit dot com), therefore this adverse review has nothing to do with Knape & Vogt.
At first we loved this product, but it soon failed. The "adjustment pins" that latch the appliance shelf (in either of two height positions) soon break, leaving a screw piece inside a threaded hole and thus rendering the lift useless. I'll post an update to report on how their service department responded.
Technical details, the pins are 0.200" in diameter at the area where they engage with the latch that keeps the appliance in the upward position. Ah, but then the pin diameter is reduced to barely 1/8" diameter in the threaded portion that holds the pin in place, and that is where the pin broke-off. Problem is that the broken-off threaded portion of the screw is now embedded in a threaded hole and there is no way to get it out. From the gouges on the pin from engaging the latch it is obvious the pins are NOT made of hardened steel (duh). What a shame because otherwise it is a fabulous product.
PS- Installation requires high skill in order to adjust your kitchen cabinet dimensions to the width of the appliance lift.
